Andrej Pejic Talks ‘Transgender Model Sisters’ & Being Voted Prom King & Queen In High School!

The bloggers here at Talent Management first laid eyes on transgender model Andrej Pejic when he famously walked both mens and womenswear shows for Jean-Paul Gaultier at Paris fashion Week.

Ever since, his versatility, razor-sharp cheekbones and he-she charms have left us encapsulated in risqué cover shoots, ad campaigns and more shows for both sexes. However, while we may have seen countless images of the male model in action, it’s not very often we get a chance to hear the endearing model speak.

Luckily for us and all you die-hard Andrej fans, James Lim recently interviewed him for The Cut’s new ‘Inside the Model’s Studio’ series – and Talent Management definitely recommends checking it out for an interesting watch.

As well as discussing favourite foods and his accomplishments as a model, Andrej was asked whether he ever feels pigeon holed into being a gender-bending model: “Yeah, I feel like people are typecast these days very easily. It was a base for me and I have sort of proved that I can be versatile in my modelling, but also in other things, in acting, or singing. Singing not as much.”

While Pejic has undoubtedly become one of the key protagonists in the rising ‘gender trend’ through his modelling, we were excited by this indication that there may be a possibility of acting or singing in his future career. Although having politely refused Lim’s request to demonstrate his vocal abilities, perhaps a singing career is a long shot.

Continuing, he explains what he thinks about the transgender trend and fellow androgynous models such as Lea T and David Chang. “Well I love my model transgender sisters. This is usually a group of people that are not treated nicely by society. They’re usually segregated and go through torment and it’s nice to sort of share these stories and open people’s minds.”

However, later in the interview when asked about his high school years, it seems he must have been quite popular in his youth having been crowned both king and queen during his time there. “I was prom queen and the year before I was prom king. It was kind of the same, I just got a differently shaped crown,” he explained.

Shortly after, Andrej discusses being one of three models in Jean-Paul Gaultier’s much awaited male fragrance campaign for Kokorico. “We all love a good threesome,” he said. “It’s sensual, but really beautiful and quite exposed. I give skin.”

Talent Management for one can’t wait to see the campaign images and loved listening to the ever articulate model in interview!
