Fashion’s ‘press month’ has well and truly kicked off, but Talent Management has just found out that one unfortunate designer has been forced to cancel their press preview following an unlikely and badly thought out theft.

The unlucky fashion house was Marc Jacobs, whose S/S12 collection was due to be shown at the label’s Mount Street store before it was stolen.

Vanessa Barthel, a press officer from Jacobs’ European office, announced: “Dear all, The Marc Jacobs PR team is sorry to inform you that our press day tomorrow in the Marc Jacobs store is cancelled, due to the theft of the spring/summer 2012 collections during its transfer from Paris.”

The American fashion house later tweeted: “Thank-you all for your concern about our stolen #SS12 Collection. Onward, upward.”

A reported £40,000 worth of samples from Marc Jacobs – you know, one of the world’s most widely recognised designers – were taken just before the collection arrived at the store.

Why someone would want to steal the collection is beyond us. If you’re going to nick designer gear, maybe it’s not a great idea to steal uber-famous one-of-a-kind samples. Next season clothes tend to stick out on eBay just a little!
