Back in 2009, Talent Management wrote all about ‘Style Rookie’ blogger Tavi Gevinson. We loved her quirky style and way with words and at just 13 years old she made it into our hearts here at the agency.

Well, it’s a few years on and Tavi’s not only developed her writing skills, but has also branched into modelling. Talent Management just came across this endearing yet creepy film for Wren’s F/W ’12 collection called ‘Beware of Young Girls’ starring none other than a now 15-year-old Tavi.

Showcasing some serious multi-talents, the young teen doesn’t just model the range and act in the film; she also sings an evocative track by Dory Previn throughout.

While Tavi is clearly a very talented young girl, compared to professional teen models she has very little modelling experience. So we can’t help but be intrigued buy the fashion brand’s choice to use an amateur.

Wren designer Melissa Coker explained: “When we make these films of course it’s about clothes but I want it to be about a story rather than being like a closeup on a skirt.”

One of the film’s directors, Maximilla Lukacs, added: “I told Melissa from the beginning that I wanted to use someone that was either an actress or a musician. I didn’t want to use a model; I just wanted someone who actually did something.”

Of course, although Tavi doesn’t have much modelling experience, this wasn’t an entirely new venture for the blogging prodigy- she’s currently starring alongside Cyndi Lauper in the new Uniqlo campaign. And neither was it her first taste of singing – in Feburary, Tavi performed Neil Young’s ‘Heart of Gold’ after a midnight screening of her new short film, Cadaver, in which the song is also featured.

“I started talking to Tavi and saw that Neil Young thing that she did and then me and Sarah [Sophie Flicker, the film’s other director] got obsessed with this Dory Previn song, and I asked her if she would be into singing it, and she loved it,” Lukacs said.

“There’s kind of this blossoming moment that’s happening with her and I feel like the film sort of captures something about that, which is really cool.”

“I’m so excited about this whole new crop of really intelligent, feminist, strong, empowered but also girly and fashion-conscious young girls and in my mind at least ‘Beware of Young Girls’ symbolizes ‘beware of young girls because they’re coming and they’re smart’,” added Flicker.
