Models Direct love designer Diane Von Furstenberg’s babywear and girlswear ranges for Gap Kids – and the diverse child models who feature in the campaign.

The collection includes vibrant, brightly coloured print dresses, leggings, vests and swimwear – and the young girls modelling it are of varying age and ethnicity. They surround Furstenberg in many of the advertisements, looking confident and happy, and all are dressed in a way that lets children enjoy being children. This makes a refreshing change from some of the campaigns that have recently seen young female models dressed up like adults with what many felt to be inappropriate styling.

Diane Von Furstenberg explained in a statement last year that her roles as mother and grandmother had been an inspiration for the gorgeous new Gap Kids range and she has spoken of her desire to empower little girls with her designs in recent interviews. Models Direct believe that the pieces we have seen will do just that.

The models featured in the campaign range from Asian to mixed race and include cute Filipino-British model Delancey Rose “Dee” Bayudan Van Meir. The young model’s Auntie – Melody Santiago – told Good Morning America: “I felt so proud and so excited seeing my niece’s images on the Internet and displayed in all countries all over the world – knowing that she has Filipino blood and [is bringing] pride to our country.”

She is reported to have told of the cute child model’s ‘natural flair’ for modelling, which was apparently noticed by her parents when she was very young. They made the decision to support their daughter’s desire to become a model and Dee was soon found work through a New York based modelling agency.

“Delancey is a very active, happy, and friendly child. She loves to dance, sing and pose in front of a camera. She has great fun and loves the attention she gets when modelling,” Said Santiago. Meanwhile, the collection is flying out to parents everywhere who love DVF’s playful designs!

“The collection captures the essence of a little girl’s dream wardrobe, as imagined by an icon of American women’s fashion,” said a Gap representative. “Diane, alongside the design team at Gap, has created a collection true to her unique style, while her experiences as a mother and grandmother have informed designs that will delight girls and their mothers alike.”
