Leading UK modelling agency Models Direct has just heard about ‘Curves in Couture’ a charity plus-only catwalk show due to be hosted by Models of Diversity in London next month on the 17th of November.

The show will feature professional models of different heights, shapes and sizes, including top international plus model Robyn Lawley and winner of the BBC’s ‘Britain’s Missing Top Model’, Kelly Knox. They will appear in couture from designers such as Anna Scholz and Jill Alexander – who will be premiering her Spring 2012 collection at the show.

‘Curves in Couture’ is the biggest plus-only show of this prestige to have taken place in the UK. It will be covered by local press but will also be broadcast to over 16 million homes by The Dish Network, a North American cable company. Hopefully this coverage will help to raise awareness of Models of Diversity’s sponsored charity – The Advance Centre. All proceeds from the event will go to this worthy charity, which helps families of children with neurological conditions from Cerebral Palsy to Autism.

We love the statement shown on the Models of Diversity website which reads:

“Models of Diversity is a London-based non-profit organization which advocates for more diversity in models, and demands that the fashion and marketing industries recognise the beauty in women and men of all races, ages, shapes, sizes, abilities, genders and sexual orientations. Our mission is to change the face of fashion and modelling! We are a campaign founded to stand for equal rights and opportunities within the modelling and fashion industry. MoD has joined with Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone for the government’s campaign on body confidence.”

More diversity within the modelling industry is something that Models Direct has been promoting for years. We believe that many people would prefer to see more variety represented in the media and are pleased to see an event like this taking place. The British Fashion Council will be backing ‘Curves in Couture’ and we can see why. Not only will it be raising money and awareness for a very worthy cause, it will also send a better message to our children than that of the airbrushed, size zero or cosmetically enhanced celebrities and models that we have become so used to seeing in recent years.
