To all our plus-size models on the books here at Talent Management, we have a rumour that may be of interest.

We all know that American fashion consultant Tim Gunn has begun to reveal himself as somewhat of a plus-size advocate of late; The Project Runway mentor signed on as Weight Watchers’ “style consultant” last January and he’s just bagged a co-hosting job for new health and lifestyle show The Revolution, in which he’ll be providing styling advice to women through their weight-loss journey.

But does all this indicate that he may be branching into designing a plus-size clothing line? Some think so.

Gunn recently chatted with Marie Claire about plus-size clothes and designers’ views on plus-size models: “It’s so difficult. Have you seen most of the plus-size sections out there? It’s horrifying. Whoever’s designing for plus-size doesn’t get it. The entire garment needs to be reconceived. You can’t just take a size 8 and make it larger.

“In my travels, I’ve been an advocate for larger women. I’ve been talking to designers, but only a half-dozen make an effort. Most say, ‘I don’t want a woman who’s a size 10 or 11 wearing my clothes.’ Well, shame on you! It’s not realistic.

“We need to address real women with real needs. At Parsons [The New School For Design], we had fit models that ranged in size from 2 to 10. We’ve got to re-conceive clothes for all sizes.”

Fingers crossed for all our plus-size models who are crying out for a chic, well-designed range specifically for their shape.
