As an age-diverse modelling agency, we at Talent Management are happy to hear a recent comment made by Aquascutum’s Design Director Joanna Sykes.

Discussing the use of 34-year-old Guinevere Van Seenus in Aquascutum’s latest S/S 2012 campaign, the designer told Vogue: “I have always worked with models of all ages for my own collection ‘SYKES’, including Daphne Selfe – who is in her eighties – and strongly believe that beautiful and considered design looks good on all women.

“We chose Guinevere because she is a very interesting beauty – a true modern classic. There are models that come in and out of fashion but Guinevere is completely iconic. She has incredible, porcelain-like skin with an amazing bone structure and features. She appeals to a sophisticated consumer who appreciates luxurious understatement and reinforces Aquascutum as a brand that appeals across all generations.”

Sykes has been praised for her appreciation of age diversity in the past having staged presentations for her label SYKES, which featured multi-generational models, including Talent management favourite, the white-haired octogenarian Daphne Selfe.

Others categorised in the unappealingly termed ‘mature model’ crop are also making a stir in the modelling industry having stolen the young models’ limelight in this season’s campaigns – Gisele Bundchen, Adriana Lima, Saskia de Brauw and Mariacarla Boscono  – all in their thirties – to name but a few.

The more news we hear of models aged 30+ being celebrated in campaigns, the more it seems the industry is beginning to appreciate the virtues of maturity – a move in the right direction as far as Talent Management is concerned!
