Talent Management is happy that British film-makers are gaining some well-deserved recognition following news that two Channel 4-funded documentaries have been nominated for the 84th Annual Academy Awards.

Announced early last week, Danfung Dennis’ British production ‘Hell and Back Again’ was nominated for Best Documentary – Feature, while Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and Daniel Junge’s ‘Saving Face’ was nominated for Best Documentary – Short Subject.

Up against fellow nominees ‘If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front’, ‘Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory’, ‘Pina’ and ‘Undefeated’, Hell and Back Again cuts back and forth between the Marines battling the Taliban in Southern Afghanistan and a Sergeant who returns from the Afghanistan conflict with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Saving Face, however, which is up against ‘The Barber of Birmingham: Foot Soldier of the Civil Rights Movement’,‘God Is the Bigger Elvis’,‘Incident in New Baghdad’ and ‘The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom’ , follows a British-Pakistani plastic surgeon who helps women who have been injured in acid attacks.

Both documentaries were commissioned by Anna Miralis as part of the acclaimed feature-length documentary strand True Stories, who said: “We are thrilled that British documentary film-making talent, which is world-class, is continuing to gain such recognition. Channel 4 is delighted to continue to support and nurture documentaries.”

The Academy Awards 2012 will take place on 26 February 2012 in Los Angeles and the team here at UK-based Talent Management will be rooting for the Brits!
