Teen model Nyasha Matonhodze has been hogging the modelling headlines ever since Louis Vuitton’s new A/W11 campaign was revealed – our blog being no exception!

So over the past week or two, we’ve been delving deeper into this model’s career, opinions and interests.

We’ve already found out when she first developed an interest in modelling, and how she feels now that she’s a successful model. But what we want to know is what she would change about the modelling industry if she could?

In a recent interview with New York Magazine, Matonhodze put us out of our misery revealing exactly what she’d like to see change: “I’d have to say the media’s perspective on modelling. They always make it seem as if it’s an easy task, like models don’t have to work hard — I’d like to change that. I want people to see the real side of modelling, and not just the glamorous.”

We couldn’t agree more. The modelling industry is tough and to be successful, it’s essential that you work hard and diminish any misconceptions about the job being all glamour and no grit. Continuing, she added: “If you’re not strong-minded, modelling can knock your confidence quite harshly. Every day you’re judged on your look, and more so today you’re judged on your personality. With that said, a lot of us are 15 or 16-years-old, so some girls could really take the criticism personally. What we have to understand is that there’s not something wrong with us per se, we just aren’t a right fit with the client.”

So to all our teen models in the making, we advise you take note of Matonhodze’s words of wisdom, after all, she wouldn’t have made it to the top without determination, a strong-mind and a realistic perception of the modelling industry.
