How To Wear The Bright Colour Trend This Summer

If colour’s your thing, then this summer you’ll be spoilt for choice. The spring/summer 2011 catwalks were awash with vivid pieces, from Christopher Kane’s neon yellows to Jil Sander’s expert colour clashing, and it’s a trend that’s now filtered onto the highstreet.

So, whether you’re after a completely bold look, or just want to work a splash of colour, read on for tips on how to wear the bright colour trend this summer.

Go Minimal

No matter if you’re swayed towards the hot pinks and warm oranges or loving the deep blues and marine greens, with such bright and vivid colours, there’s little need for embellishment. So, to avoid the ‘clown’ look, go clean cut –  let minimal pieces, simple draping, and a straight and narrow silhouette do all the hard work.

Say Goodbye To Your LBD

One of our favourite on-trend brights this season is hot pink. So, while you may be tempted to play it safe with that oh-so reliable little black dress, we recommend trying on a little pink dress for a refreshing change. Not only does it ooze summer, but if you want to try your hand at colour clashing, pink goes great with equally-bold colours like orange. Soften The Look

What to know why Christopher Kane’s shocking neon yellows just seem to ‘work’? It’s all about the fabric. So for a more sophisticated look, we recommend pairing bright colours up with softer, delicate fabrics such as lace, chiffon or silk. It’ll soften the whole look and make otherwise garish colours easy to carry off.
