Who Are Your Favourite Male Supermodels?

Although male models have to compete for fashion’s attention with all the Campbells, Mosses and Bündchens stealing the limelight, they have and will continue to play a key part in the industry.

Although male models have to compete for fashion’s attention with all the Campbells, Mosses and Bündchens stealing the limelight, they have and will continue to play a key part in the industry.

As such, we at Talent Management are celebrating male modelling by bringing you a low-down on our favouites – all of which have made their mark in a female-dominated fashion world.

Tyson Beckford

Named one of the ‘50 Most Beautiful People in the World’ by People magazine, we at Talent Management can’t help but agree. American Beckford is best known for his Ralph Lauren days as the front model for the company’s Polo line of male sportswear and appearances in music videos by Toni Braxton, Britney Spears and 50 Cent. More recently, he followed in the footsteps of Tyra Banks and hosted and judged the modelling competition ‘Make Me A Supermodel’, and has even been a guest judge on Project Runway.

Marcus Schenkenberg

The 6’4″ Swedish model famous for his Calvin Klein ads and Pamela Anderson relationship may be 42 now, but he still deserves to feature in our list. Regarded as the world’s first male supermodel, Schenkenberg’s muscular body and washboard abs have featured in shoots for Valentino, Donna Karan, Versace, Giorgo Armani, Joop, Gianfranco Ferre and Iceberg, to name a few. It’s not surprising then that since being discovered by Barry King while rollerskating in Venice Beach in 1989, he has now become the highest paid per-year male model in the world.

Mark Vanderloo

Also 42, Dutch Vanderloo has modelled for Calvin Klein, Donna Karen, Armani and Trussardi, but is perhaps best known for being the primary model for Hugo Boss, posing for those infamous black and white ads and billboards. In 1996, the 6’2″ broad-shouldered model joined three other male models, including Vanderloo’s best friend, Alex Ludquist, to become the first men to appear on the cover of Marie Claire. More recently, he made a guest appearance on Cycle 11 of America’s Next Top Model.
