Yesterday saw the focus of London Fashion Week settle firmly on the men, as designers such as Savile Row’s E. Tautz and Gieves & Hawkes showcased their best on ‘menswear day’.

Here at Models Direct male models and booking agents were impressed by Gieves & Hawkes autumn/winter collection, which included jackets featuring luxury blends of mink and cashmere, and bold coloured ties – intended to brighten up the dullest of days for the wearer.

Barry Tulip – design director of Gieves and Hawkes – told Reuters of the range: “The most important thing about this collection is that we’ve not reinvented the wheel, we’ve kept it very classic. We’ve just updated it to make it relevant for today’s customer. When everybody is depressed as they are now, you have to dream a little bit – for instance we’ve gone to town with our printed ties taking our inspiration from David Hicks.” (David Hicks was an English designer and interior decorator who gained fame in the 1950s and was known for his use of bold colours).

Equally classic designs by E.Tautz – that also included an injection of colour – were seen on male models as they had their moment on the London Fashion Week catwalks. This collection featured timeless coat designs in hand-made woollen tweed, predominantly seen in shades of black and grey but with some blue and scarlet red additions. There were also elegant suits in dark colours that looked amazing on the models.

“All the clothes in this collection are very matte, quite heavy, and it’s that really light-sucking matteness that we liked and that came from Serra,” designer Patrick Grant told Reuters.
