Model Looks On A Budget Series – Homemade Body Wraps

Body wraps can help to promote detox, improve circulation, soothe aching muscles and heal, tone and moisturise the skin. So here at Talent Management we thought we’d share our top tips on homemade alternatives to the expensive spa wrap treatments!

A note about essential oil use:

If you decide to include any essential oils in your body wrap please test the diluted oil on the inside of your wrist, 48 hrs prior to use.

Never use essential oils; near the eyes or mucous membranes, internally, on children, while you are pregnant or breast feeding or on anyone who has not been checked for sensitivity. Avoid exposing your skin to sunlight for 24 hrs after essential oil use.

You will need:

Chosen ingredients (from ingredients lists below)
Access to a warm, quiet room with a seat or bed
Access to a bath and shower
3 old medium-sized towels
Somewhere to warm a bath robe (we would suggest a radiator or tumble drier)
Book or relaxation CD
Large glass of water
Plastic sheet
Body brush
Bathrobe
Blanket
Clock

Ingredients:

Use one of these Talent Management combinations per wrap.

Detox, soothing and healing treatment:

1kg of Epsom salts or sea salts – plus optional 15 drops of Lavender and 5 drops of Geranium essential oil

Detox, toning and circulation boost treatment:

1kg of pink kaolin clay – plus optional 5 drops of Peppermint, 5 drops Rosemary and 5 drops of Juniper berry essential oil

Deep moisturising treatment:

For this treatment add the ingredient mixture direct to the skin as described in the instructions below, and follow with a plain hot water towel wrap.

Mix one tablespoon of olive oil with 100g of aqueous cream and 15 drops of essential rose oil.

Method:

Spread a blanket first, then your plastic sheet, onto the seat or bed in your warm room. Place a large glass of water and book or relaxation CD within reaching distance and ensure that a clock is in view so that you can time your treatment.

Run some hot water into the bath and mix in your ingredients (unless you are doing the deep moisturising treatment), use just enough water to soak all 3 towels. When the ingredients are completely dissolved place the towels into the bath and move them around for a couple of minutes for even coverage. Leave to soak.

Place your bathrobe on a heater, or try a Talent Management tip and pop it in the tumble drier for a few minutes, to warm through while you use your body brush to stimulate circulation from the feet upwards. Work in firm strokes, always towards the heart, avoiding sensitive areas like the face, until your skin is gently tingling.

If you have opted for the deep moisturising body wrap smother your skin in the moisturising treatment mixture now, and use plain hot water towels for the next part of the process.

Remove your towels from the bath and wring out excess water carefully.

Make sure that your warmed robe is to hand and wrap your first towel snugly around one thigh. Repeat on the other leg with the next towel, and use the third to wrap the truck of your body. Put on your warm bath robe and immediately make your way to the chair or bed. Lay or sit on the plastic sheet and wrap it around you body, then do the same with the blanket. Before settling with your book or relaxation CD take a large drink of water. Now relax for 30-45 minutes. When the time is up head straight for the shower and rinse in luke warm water.

After care

Continue to drink plenty of filtered or bottled water (approximately 8 glasses spread over 24 hrs) for the next 48 hrs and for the best results avoid processed, sugary and fatty foods, alcohol and caffeine for this period.
