What To Bring: Baby Modelling

When you’ve settled on the right baby modelling agencies and signed up you might not be expecting much to come of it. But now you’ve got invited to a casting. If it’s the first time you’re going, or even if you’ve been before, it can be a bit nerve racking, but organising yourself can really help you feel more prepared.

It can seem like an entirely different world, and with your little one in tow you’re going to want to be as organised as you can.

While a commute followed by a whole days work isn’t considered unusual for adults, when the main star is only a few weeks old, they’re going to need a lot more breaks, and much more patience. Often baby modelling agencies will award jobs to multiple little ones in order to spread the work load and make the most of everyone’s time – while letting the little ones get all the rest they need.

Plan ahead

When you’re going to your first event through your baby modelling agency, it can be really helpful to make a list. Start by thinking what you’d need when you go out anywhere with your child. You’ll certainly need the usual bits and pieces such as changes of clothes, some toys, snacks or bottles depending on age and how you feed, and plenty of nappies.

If you’re not sure exactly what it’s expected of you, it’s best to bring lots of extra things so you’re prepared for any eventuality. Photo shoots can be in centrally heated studios, or they might be outside where your baby will be exposed to the elements. Bring layers, jumpers, coats and hats just in case. They don’t take up a lot of space when you’re that size and it’s far better to have them with you than for your little one to catch a chill.
If your baby doesn’t enjoy his or herself then you’re not going to want to go again, but not going prepared can warp this experience.

As a result, we think the following things are worth considering at the very least:

  • Nappies – one for every hour you’ll be out as well as some spares.
  • Wipes.
  • Nappy bags.
  • Changing pad.
  • Hand sanitizer.
  • Bottles and powder or some expressed milk.
  • Blanket.
  • Extra clothes. Babies tend to need changing a few times a day!
  • A hat (time of year dependent).
  • If your baby is old enough to be moving on to solids, bring plenty of things for them to eat.
  • Emergency information. Make sure you have numbers of anyone you might need to contact (your other half or your GP for example). Save them onto your phone, but also keep a paper copy in case your battery dies.
  • First aid supplies. Anything your baby will need in particular as well as basics such as a paracetamol solution, plasters, and antibiotic cream. Nappy rash cream can also come in handy.
  • Tissues.
  • Nail clippers.
  • A sling for carrying your baby.
  • A camera. We know there will be plenty of photos taken but you’re likely to want to capture some of the moments yourself too.

Don’t forget about mum

A lot of things for baby are likely to be available at the shoot because they’re prepared for babies and know how to pamper tiny stars. Mum (or dad) is just as important though, and you’re also in for a long day of travel and standing around, as well as providing top notch child care. There will be down time when you’re not needed as much, although you’ll probably not want to let your baby out of your site.

We’d suggest bringing the following as a bare minimum:

  • Your usual handbag essentials (purse, keys and phone).
  • Sunglasses.
  • Pen and paper.
  • Snacks (or better yet a packed lunch).
  • A bottled drink.
  • Spare top in case of baby related disasters.
  • A book or magazine.

It’s not quite an ‘everything but the kitchen sink’ situation, but you might need more things than you’d think. As you go to more things with your baby modelling agency you’re likely to hone your packing skills to a fine art.

Is there anything else you’d bring with you when you go to an event through baby modelling agencies? We’d love to hear!
