Modelling agencies<\/a> and fashion industry experts – Talent Management included – have all been talking about Vogue\u2019s new Model Health Initiative<\/a>, which has put a stop to hiring models under the age of 16 and models who “appear to have an eating disorder”,\u00a0 ever since it was announced.<\/p>\n

Just a few weeks back, Head of Cond\u00e9 Nast International, Jonathan Newhouse, said in a statement: “Vogue editors around the world want the magazines to reflect their commitment to the health of the models who appear on the pages and the well-being of their readers.”

\nWhile many models have predictably embraced the change, it seems Cindy Crawford, who\u2019s been modelling since she was 17, is dubious.<\/p>\n

Jezebel recently asked the modelling heavyweight if she had any reaction to Vogue’s decision, to which she replied with what was described as a \u201cshrug\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cCrawford was silent for a few seconds,\u201d a reporter at Jezebel wrote. \u201cThen she said, \u2018Honestly, not really.\u2019 I pressed. Long pause. \u2018I don’t know. I guess it’s…great.\u2019 She drew out the word in a tone that may have been unintentionally ironic. \u2018But that was never one of my issues, so. I think that the fashion industry is in the consumers’ hands. Because if they buy into it, nothing will change. If consumers don’t like it that models are too skinny, or too young, and they don’t buy the magazines, then believe me, then the magazines will have to change\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

Talent Management believes that a move like this can only be positive, not just for pleasing consumers, but for the health and well-being of models.<\/p>\n
