Sunday\u2019s Bafta awards ceremony held few surprises for model booking agents<\/a> and writers here at the Models Direct offices. The \u2018play it safe\u2019 tone of the event was disappointing and as vanilla as the film of the night\u2019s plot.<\/p>\n

The Artist<\/em>, as expected, won an disproportionate amount of recognition for what – while it may have had charming elements – simply was not the Best Film of the year. Indeed, though Jean Dujardin clearly captured the hearts of many in his role in the film, we would have loved to swipe the Bafta from under his moustached nose and lay it instead in the talented<\/a> hands of Gary Oldman – for his performance in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy<\/em>. This gritty Brit-flick deserved its awards for Outstanding British Film and Best Adapted Screenplay. Peter Straughan co-wrote the film with his late wife and gave a moving acknowledgement to her contribution on Sunday, saying: “She wrote all the good bits and I made the coffee, so Bridget I love you, I miss you, this is for you.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It would also be very hard to argue against Meryl Streep taking best actress<\/a> for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady<\/em>. Best Make-Up and Hair award here was a given!
\nWe\u2019ve added a list of Bafta winners below, with our biggest disapproval reserved for Rango<\/em> as best animated film. It is impossible to understand how this tedious offering from Gore Verbinski managed to earn the award, with or without the help of Johnny Depp as his lead character.
