Vman's last issue (winter 2011) featured James Franco on the cover<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Formally at the helm of Vogue Paris, it seems Carine Roitfeld\u2019s notorious yet original approach to editing has remained strong judging by her latest freelancing job – guest editing VMan’s spring fashion issue.<\/p>\n

The quirky gig saw her use real men to model<\/a> \u2013 including a chef, mechanic, architect and even a fireman. While using real models may not be a new concept in itself, using them in the male fashion domain is pretty novel.<\/p>\n

Sure, they\u2019re all pretty good looking or \u201cnot hard to look at\u201d as WWD eloquently states, but the fact is their look sits outside of the classic fashion model’s strict requirements, yet they\u2019re the ones bagging this uber-cool modelling job<\/a> \u2013 something that the team at Models Direct loves to see!<\/p>\n

Roitfeld told WWD that she didn\u2019t want to use professional models because she likes \u201cmen trendy, but not fashion victims \u2026 When you work with real people, you can\u2019t impose something\u201d and claimed that the images in VMag are \u201cvery new for a men\u2019s magazine\u201d.<\/p>\n

Also featured in the spring edition is everyone from Glee\u2019s Chord Overstreet to bullfighter Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Manzanares, with French actor Tahar Rahim chosen as the cover model.<\/p>\n

Accompanying the issue, Carine also styled a pinup calendar, but unfortunately chose not to use \u2018real women\u2019, but rather obvious choices, inducing Victoria\u2019s Secret model Adriana Lima.<\/p>\n

While Roitfeld told WWD this is the first and probably last time she\u2019ll work on a men\u2019s magazine, we\u2019re hoping she chooses real and diverse models in her upcoming work, whoever it may be for.<\/p>\n
