{"id":4572,"date":"2011-11-24T15:33:09","date_gmt":"2011-11-24T15:33:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.talentmanagement.com\/blog\/?p=4572"},"modified":"2011-11-24T15:33:47","modified_gmt":"2011-11-24T15:33:47","slug":"body-confidence-quick-fixes-%e2%80%93-how-far-would-you-go","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.talentmanagement.com\/blog\/2011\/11\/body-confidence-quick-fixes-%e2%80%93-how-far-would-you-go\/","title":{"rendered":"Body Confidence Quick Fixes \u2013 How Far Would You Go?"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_3832\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3832\" style=\"width: 211px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.talentmanagement.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/free-boob-job-offer-in-magazine-causes-outrage\/boob-job\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3832\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3832\" title=\"Body Confidence Quick Fixes \u2013 How Far Would You Go?\" src=\"http:\/\/assets.talentmanagement.com\/blog\/wp-uploads\/2011\/10\/boob-job-211x300.jpg\" alt=\"Body Confidence Quick Fixes \u2013 How Far Would You Go?\" width=\"211\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/talentmanagementblog\/2011\/10\/boob-job-211x300.jpg 211w, https:\/\/s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/talentmanagementblog\/2011\/10\/boob-job.jpg 282w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 211px) 100vw, 211px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3832\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Body Confidence Quick Fixes \u2013 How Far Would You Go?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Yesterday, the team at Models Direct, one of the UK\u2019s leading <a href=\"http:\/\/www.modelsdirect.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">modelling agencies<\/a>, blogged about a <a title=\"Model Diversity Promotes Positive Body Image, According To Research\" href=\"http:\/\/www.talentmanagement.com\/blog\/2011\/11\/model-diversity-promotes-positive-body-image-according-to-research\/\" target=\"_blank\">body image survey<\/a> conducted by Central YMCA and the Centre for Appearance Research at the University of the West of England.<\/p>\n<p>The research, which explored public attitudes towards images of models in the media and advertising, concluded that model diversity does indeed promote positive body image.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, however, it also found that there clearly isn\u2019t enough diversity on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.modelsdirect.com\/become-a-model\/women\/looks-types\/\" target=\"_blank\">modelling<\/a> scene, as a shocking 1 in 4 adults revealed they felt depressed about their bodies having been negatively affected by images of so-called \u2018perfect\u2019 models.<\/p>\n<p>Given that so many people have poor body image, the survey went on to ask whether the public would be prepared to adopt a quick fix solution to feel better about their bodies, and if so, to what extent.<\/p>\n<p>These are the disheartening results:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Nearly 10% of men (8.5%) would consider taking steroids to change their body shape<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 If money wasn\u2019t an issue, a quarter of men (24%) and a third of women (29.5%) would have cosmetic surgery to change their body shape<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 A fifth of adolescent boys (17.7%) have taken protein supplements to make themselves more muscular<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Over one in ten boys (11.1%) would take steroids to build muscle if they were unhappy with the way they looked<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Nearly 10% of boys and girls (8.3% and 7.7%) would start taking laxatives to lose weight if they were unhappy with the way they looked<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Nearly 15% of girls would start taking diet pills to lose weight if they were unhappy with the way they looked<\/p>\n<p>The survey also found that the desire for cosmetic procedures among adolescents is popular, with the most desired being breast implants (14.7% of girls), rhinoplasty (7.7% of boys and 11.5% of girls) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talentmanagement.com\/blog\/2011\/10\/botox-babies-%e2%80%93-the-quest-for-eternal-youth-goes-too-far\/\" target=\"_blank\">Botox<\/a> (9.8% of girls).<\/p>\n<p>Statistics as shocking as these really do outline the need for more diverse shapes, sizes, and ages on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.modelsdirect.com\/become-a-model\" target=\"_blank\">modelling<\/a> scene.
