David Gandy - English male supermodel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

When David Gandy won a daytime model<\/a> search competition on This Morning in 2002 he could never have imagined how established he would have become in the industry less than a decade later. Born and raised in Billericay, Essex, the 31 year old\u2019s modelling<\/a> career has gone from strength to strength, finally earning him the title of the first and only male supermodel in the world.<\/p>\n

In 2007 Gandy got his big break and became the the face, and body, of \u2018Light Blue\u2019 – a fragrance from Dolce & Gabbana. He has never looked back. The TV advertisement for \u2018Light Blue\u2019, where he modelled<\/a> in white trunks that were frankly enough to make anyone blush, put him firmly on the map and he has since made regular appearances on the catwalk for this Italian fashion giant. Earlier in the year his fast rise to fame was documented in style when the brand dedicated an entire coffee table book to images of him – another first for the male model<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, despite his English roots, he seems to have been adopted as the embodiment of Italian style. Even Marks & Spencer couldn\u2019t resist capitalising on his Italian-style looks when they recently snapped him up to model their new Collezione Autumn\/winter 2011 range.<\/p>\n

What ever you think of him David Gandy is more than just a pretty face. Before his career in modelling began he had a job with a car magazine and he is now Car Correspondent for GQ.com. He also writes a blog for British Vogue. We have to admit that he has become a bit of a favourite here at Models Direct.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m my biggest critic and I will keep criticising myself and hopefully if I keep doing that I will keep improving myself\u201d. He said, in a recent interview for the Telegraph.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not sure really compared to the women if I am a supermodel it\u2019s an accolade that is given to you if you\u2019re at the top of the modelling industry, you\u2019re probably one of the top models in the world. It just happens that I\u2019m probably a bit more in the public eye than the models around at the moment but there\u2019s a lot of good looking guys, a lot of them English as well! Brits are at the top of the fashion industry and a lot of the models are, you know, Kate Moss, myself, Rosie, that\u2019s something to be celebrated really I think\u201d.<\/p>\n
