Joining\u00a0 modelling agencies might be done on a whim, or it might be the result of months of deliberation and a lifelong burning desire to try something new. It\u2019s probably quite different from anything else you\u2019ve done in the past and so even if you want to prepare it can be a bit tricky to know where to start.<\/p>\n

To help you out, we have come up with some of the things you should and shouldn\u2019t do in the run up to your first photo shoot so you feel totally prepared and much more relaxed.<\/p>\n

1. Speak to your modelling agency<\/strong><\/p>\n

It might seem obvious, but we modelling agencies have a wealth of experience in the photo shoot game. We\u2019ve got many models through their first shoot, and it can be scary for everyone the first time. We have also spoken directly to the photo shoot organisers, and as such we know all the little details you\u2019ve been worrying about (and if we don\u2019t, we can definitely find out). Not sure about parking? We\u2019ll find out. Don\u2019t know what you should be wearing? Sorted. How early should you arrive? We\u2019ll know both when you\u2019re expected to be there, and how early you should arrive for extra brownie points. We\u2019re your go to information point so please don\u2019t hesitate to get in touch if you don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

2. Know what to bring<\/strong><\/p>\n

You might need to speak to your modelling agency for this information, but if you don\u2019t know a lot a basic rule is to turn up fresh faced and make up free. Your hair should be clean but don\u2019t worry too much about styling it, because this is usually taken care of. If it\u2019s not being styled on set, and your make up isn\u2019t being done, make sure you bring both your make up bag and some clips and hairspray with you. That way you\u2019re ready for make up or you can get cracking and apply an appropriate look \u2013 you\u2019re more likely to know what\u2019s flattering than a stranger anyway.<\/p>\n

Sometimes outfits are provided, and sometimes you might be asked to wear your own clothes. Make sure whatever you\u2019ve chosen to wear is clean and ironed a couple of days before you need it, so you know you\u2019re prepared. There\u2019s nothing worse than a night before panic that you can\u2019t find your favourite jeans, or that shirt you were planning on wearing isn\u2019t where you thought you\u2019d left it. It\u2019d also be wise to try everything on, and not just assume it still looks great. A slightly too hot wash or that extra bag of crisps need not be your downfall.<\/p>\n

3. Get your skin ready<\/strong><\/p>\n

We all have the occasional break out, and they\u2019re often worse when we\u2019re stressed or not getting enough sleep. Unfortunately, these are all things you might experience if you\u2019re feeling a bit nervy before the big day. You can do your best to make sure your skin is looking top notch by making sure you remove every trace of make up<\/a> before bed, and that you also moisture and exfoliate too. We have other tips for how to make sure your skin is looking its best<\/a>, but mostly, make sure you\u2019re drinking lots of water, and if you do happen to get a spot the morning of your photo shoot (Murphy\u2019s law) remember that a touch of conceal can make heaps of difference.<\/p>\n

    How would you prepare for an interview?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If you were going for a job interview, you would make sure you knew as much as possible about the company and you\u2019d look back through the application, as well as your CV and covering letter. Then you\u2019d pick out a cracking power outfit, have a good night\u2019s sleep, before enjoying a hearty breakfast. That\u2019s what we\u2019d do at least.<\/p>\n

    For your first modelling job<\/a> it\u2019s not that different. The good night\u2019s sleep and the breakfast are great, because you don\u2019t want to be yawning or complaining your way through the day because you forgot to eat or you just didn\u2019t get enough sleep.<\/p>\n
