{"id":16483,"date":"2013-08-09T15:11:26","date_gmt":"2013-08-09T15:11:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.talentmanagement.com\/blog\/?p=16483"},"modified":"2013-08-13T12:14:05","modified_gmt":"2013-08-13T12:14:05","slug":"models-direct-page-3-dropped-by-irish-sun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.talentmanagement.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/models-direct-page-3-dropped-by-irish-sun\/","title":{"rendered":"Models Direct: Page 3 Dropped By Irish Sun"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.talentmanagement.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/models-direct-page-3-dropped-by-irish-sun\/screen-shot-2013-08-09-at-15-47-10\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16484\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16484\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/assets.talentmanagement.com\/blog\/wp-uploads\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-09-at-15.47.10.png\" width=\"494\" height=\"352\" srcset=\"https:\/\/s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/talentmanagementblog\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-09-at-15.47.10.png 494w, https:\/\/s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/talentmanagementblog\/2013\/08\/Screen-Shot-2013-08-09-at-15.47.10-300x213.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 494px) 100vw, 494px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Models Direct has heard this morning that <a title=\"The Sun's Irish editor\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/media\/greenslade\/2013\/aug\/09\/sun-ireland\" target=\"_blank\">The Sun\u2019s Irish editor<\/a> has given in to pressure to drop pictures of topless models on page 3!<\/p>\n<p>The move comes after boys mags were told earlier this month to hide their saucier front covers, amid fears about the affect that they could be having on the young.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Campaign group <em>No More Page Three<\/em> said: &#8220;We are hoping that the UK Sun will follow suit and ultimately hope for an end to all objectifying images and a truly equal representation of women within the British press.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Girlguiding agreed: &#8220;We would like the Sun to use its newspaper to promote positive role models to inspire girls and young women and help everyone to understand that women are never for sale.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the general secretary of Unison, Dave Prentis said that he believed &#8220;The tide has turned against showing these patronising images of women&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>However, when asked if they would reconsider the move if sales fell, deputy editor of the Irish Sun said: &#8220;We always listen to what our readers want at the Irish Sun and will continue to do that.&#8221; For now they intend to switch to &#8220;showbiz or glamorous photos of celebrities on the beach or doing fashion shoots&#8221;. These may include implied nude images, or those where the model is topless but is covering her nipples with a strategically placed arm.<\/p>\n<p>Models Direct would love to know what you think of this change in approach by the paper?
