By diminishing the boundary between sexes, transgender model Andrej Pejic has become one of the most wanted male models in the industry, and a firm favourite with Models Direct.

With a stunningly feminine yet angular face, slender build and long platinum blonde locks, Pejic is able to model for both womenswear and menswear.

German publication ZEIT Magazin recently asked the androgynous beauty whether he feels more like a man or a woman: “Sometimes I feel more masculine but sometimes more feminine. Many think of me as more feminine but I am both. And at the moment I feel very comfortable about that.”

He went on to explain how he discovered his ultra feminine side: “When I was very young I was interested in my mother’s wardrobe. As long as you are a kid everyone thinks that’s cute. It was only when I got older that I realized that there is a thin line between boys and girls.

The 20 year old Australian has been working as a model for a roughly a year now, but it seems he never even considered a modelling career before he was discovered. “I started reading fashion magazines early on and I loved buying clothes, but I never dreamed of a modelling career.”

ZEIT Magazin went on to ask Pejic when the first time he modelled womenswear was: “I’ve modelled for some Australian brands but my first big show was Gaultier at the Haute Couture shows in Paris in January. It took a while until people thought I was capable of modelling women’s collections because there were doubts I had the body to do it. But apparently I do have it.”

So what are the differences in walking for women’s and men’s shows? “Fashion for women is more demanding. It depends on how you walk and how you move. At men’s shows you just run off,” he said. “I know what others expect of me. As a woman I am sensual and sexy. As a man I am more – plain.”

It appears that the rise of the androgynous model is now an unstoppable force as ‘it’ models like Pejic are being placed further in the spotlight.
